The equistarian week has been launched the Omani union for equistarian participating in Salalah tourism festival 2016, in co-operation with Dhofar municipality during period from 24 July-31 July. The equistarian week has included the Gulf Peq picking championship with the participation of U.A.E knights, Saudi Arabian Kingdom and Qatar knights, in addition to the government equistarian units represented by the Royal equistarian, Royal entourage equistarian, equistarian Police unit, Sultan Oman armored forces equistarian. In addition to the organization of ability and endurance competition for the young people of Dhofar.

This championship has been organized by the common efforts made by the Omani union for equistarian and the ministry of the sports affairs and the office of the minister of State, Governor of Dhofar, The Dhofar municipality, the government equistarian units, Salalah equistarian committee, besides private sector institutions which supported the Championship including RCC as the main sponsor of the Championship, Methanol Company, Muscat Bank, Dhofar Bank, Dhofar International Company for development and Investment, Salalah Milk Company and Sama for digital information

Gulf Peq Championship:

The Gulf Peq picking Championship had been organized at the equistarian square behind the Municipal entertaining Centre at Ittin Plain, where the participating team arrived on 24^th July, and the next day was the technical meeting and the trial of Horses. On 26^th July the championship was within 6 Hours to pick up a Peq with the spear (individual), two hours for the picking of two rings and a Peq with the spear, under the auspice of His highness Shaikh Khalid bin Omar bin Saeed Al Marhoon. On 27^th July, the Championship continued to include 6 Hours for picking a Peq with individual sword. In addition to two hours for cutting two lemons and a peq with the sword (individual).

On 28^th July, it was break for all the participating teams and exchange of souvenirs among participants.

On 29^th July there were 6 Hours for picking a Peq with the spear by the teams, along with two Hours for picking a Peq by a sword and spear for the pair.

The Championship was closed on 30^th July by 6 Hours for the picking a Peq with the sword for the teams, along with two hours respectively, under the auspice of Sayed Mohammed Bin Sultan Al-Busaidi, the Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.

Ability and Endurance competition:

The ability and endurance competition was launched by the Omani union for equistarian as a part of equistarian week on 31^st July at a distance of 80 Kms. The competition was allotted to Dhofar young people to encourage them to participate in such ancient sports organized by the Union during each season. A big number of Knights and Horses were participating in such an important event.
