Under the Auspices of Raysut Cement Company the environment & Climate affairs at Dhofar Governorate, Celebrates the Oman environment day – 2017
As included in the celebration organized by the Ministry of Environment and Climate affairs celebrating the Oman environment day, which is on 8 th
January every year, under the Slogan “Our Environment is life”.
The D.G. of environment and Climate affairs ended their activities with a campaign to clean the beach and the Dharis “Khor” natural reservation on 12 th
January, under the auspice of Engineer Abdul Qader bin Ahmed Al-Hadad, Deputy Chairman Dhofar Municipality, in the presence of a number of General Managers of Companies, communities and some other representatives of the official and media authorities, as well as a great gathering of Nationals and residents.
Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al- Saiari, Director General of Environment and Climate affairs Dhofar Governorate said that, the campaign has been achieved through the co-operation with RCC the exclusive sponsor of the Oman environment day activities at Dhofar Governorate along with the participation of Dharis volunteer team and the Sudanese community as well as members of RCC Staff and Al-Baleed resort Staff “Anantara”, the Indian and Pakistani schools, Oman environment association, in addition to some other participants estimated at more than 200 participants and volunteers plus the local community.
Mr. Saiari added that:
The campaign was really a great success; it was an efficient participation by enthusiastic and happy Children and young people who contributed successfully in the campaign. The campaign aims to enhance the sense of participation among the people of all ages in the Society, including the nationals and the residents. It also aims to educate people on the best environmental and health practices and to educate them on the hazards and dangers of the waste which pollute the beaches and the natural Khors (streams) and how these wastes might affect the natural life of the Fish and birds living there.
The participants were distributed in the different areas of the beach, along with another group distributed along the Khors (Stream) to clean the wastes gathered at the edges of the Khor and among the beaches.
Thanks to Eng. Abdul Qader bin Ahmed Al –Hadad, Deputy Chairman Dhofar Municipality, the sponsor of the event for his great auspices of this celebration, appreciating his efforts and Interests regarding the conservation and protection of the environment.
Thanks to the officials of RCC for their initiative in sponsoring exclusively the Oman environment day at Dhofar governorate, appreciating the kindness of all to conserve and protect the environment and to spread the environmental awareness among the whole community categories appreciating their effective role in making of the celebration activities a great success, on such an occasion wishing more co-operation in the field of environment in future.
On the margin of such an event, painting and drawing activities for Children were organized on the biological diversification note book. A number of publications, educational booklets banners and Folders belonging to the Ministry were distributed. A number of other activities such as Folklore dances and poems were presented. It’s to be mentioned that the campaign was highly appreciated by the nationals and the residents living in Dharis area.
Plantation Campaign:
In coincidence with celebration of Oman Environment day, the D.G. of environment and Climate affairs at Dhofar Governorate organized a number of programs besides this event including the plantation of wild plants and local trees in the Salalah College of technology and Salalah College of applied Science. 20 Seedlings have been planted at the R.O.P headquarters at Dhofar Governorate on Thursday 12 January. This is included in what is called (Ashjar). Initiatives launched by the Ministry of environment and climate affairs targeting the wild plants due to their economic importance and great Culture. They provide food and medicine in addition to that they maintain the balance of the environment systems and support the life of many living things through plantation of trees and different Omani wild plants.
The initiative aims to educate the community and to activate its participation in conserving the wild plants and the wild local plants to increase the green space, expand the network and the co-operation between the Government institutions and the private sectors regarding the plantation of plants.
The directorate distributed publications through the fillings stations to educate and approach the public on the Oman environment day and to raise environment awareness on plant plantation.
The Oman environment day celebration assures the right of the Omani nationals and the residents in Oman to live in a clean clear and healthy environment and to enhance the role of every Individual in the Community in conserving the environment, considering that the natural resources protection and conservation remain as a necessity and national obligation for the future generation, in which all people should have to contribute.
On the other hand, Saman explorer team of extra divers company has organized a campaign to clean the coral reefs in Halanyat Islands with the co-operation with the D.G. of environment and Climate affairs at Dhofar governorate continues from Sunday 8 January upto Thursday 12 th
January in which a number of Volunteers participated efficiently.
